Live to Read, Read to Live

How:

Books, books, and more books! Create some book trailers, book talks, or reviews to encourage others to read great titles! Share with your teacher or on a social media platform.

Choose a book together with another family member. Read it together and share a focus activity for each chapter/section. Here are some conversation starters, but also add your own:

• Why did we choose this book to read together?

• What predictions might we make about this book based upon the title and cover design?

• Select one quote from current chapter and share how it connects to our family.

• Tell whether you agree or disagree with a character’s decision.

• Select a passage that ‘speaks to you’ and tell why.

• How does the author’s theme/underlying message of the book relate to us?

• Share what you enjoyed about reading the book together.

Book Access:

• Living Sky School Division Digital Library Overdrive: To use Overdrive go to your school’s website. Under Library click on the overdrive icon. Enter user name (firstname.lastname) password is the same as school computer log in. Use search engine to locate titles.

• TeenBookCloud: An online collection of eBooks, novels, graphic novels, video, and audiobooks through the Calgary Public Library (click on “Access TeenBookCloud" bottom of page)

• CommonLit: Fiction and non-fiction texts for students in Grades 3-12
